Vol. 320 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roads Programme.

61.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that local authority councillors throughout the country who are responsible for the road programme at local level have not received as a matter of course a copy of the Department's recently published document Road Development Plan for the 1980s and if he will have a copy of this document issued without delay to all local authority councillors.

A copy of the Road Development Plan for the 1980s and of my statement made on the occasion of its publication was issued by my Department to each County and City Manager on 1 October 1979. It is not the Department's practice to issue copies of such publications to individual members of local authorities. It is open to each local authority to acquire, through the Government Publications Sale Office, sufficient copies for circulation to their members.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reasons he approved a compulsory purchase order (details supplied) for a road which had been turned down by the elected representatives of the Dublin County Council.

This compulsory purchase order provides for the acquisition of land for road improvements and other purposes including the provision of a substantial recreation area. I confirmed the order on 14 February 1978 following full consideration of the objections made to me against its confirmation, the evidence given at the public local inquiry held in relation to the order and the report of the person who held the inquiry. I was not advised of objection by the elective members of the council to the acquisition of the land. The operation of the order would now be a matter for the county council.
