Vol. 320 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Philatelic Museum.

12.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the progress made in relation to the establishment of a Philatelic Museum in Dublin.

A decision has been taken in recent weeks to establish a Philatelic Museum in Dublin.

My Department, in consultation with the OPW are investigating the suitability of two premises for this purpose.

If the Deputy who made the remark about a planted question would refer back to the records he would find that I have been pressing for some time for a philatelic museum. I welcome a proposal to establish such a museum. Can the Minister estimate the total value of philatelic and postal material housed in the archives or in the National Museum collection?

To supplement the Deputy's remarks to the Opposition, I might add that on Tuesday, 30 May 1978 a similar question was asked by him in this House.

(Interruptions.)

Now we have a planted supplementary. This is the best yet.

Regarding the second part of the supplementary, I do not have the information requested but I shall obtain it from the Department.

Without wishing to interrupt a private affair can the Minister tell us the two locations being considered for the museum in question? Is either one in Deputy Brady's constituency?

I do not know where Deputy Brady resides but one of the premises in question is in O'Connell Street and the other is in Merrion Square.

Would the Minister consider establishing the museum in Marlboro House which, incidentally, is not in my constituency?

I shall note that point and have the possibility investigated.
