Written Answers. - County Cork Industrial Development.

205.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism the plans the IDA have for industrial development in each of the following towns in County Cork: Kinsale, Bandon, Clonakilty, Dunmanway, Skibbereen, Bantry and Castletownbere, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am advised by the Industrial Development Authority that the new pharmaceutical project for Kinsale which is being promoted by the US firm, Eli Lilley, is expected to commence operations later this year and is expected to provide employment for 600 people at full production. A further US project, Diamond Aerosols Ltd., also plans to locate in Kinsale and will employ 60 people at full production. The Authority have applied for planning permission for a 10,000 square feet factory for this project, and also for a 24,000 square feet factory for a project which is currently under negotiation. The Authority also have a 13-acre site in the town which it is promoting for suitable projects.

The IDA have recently completed construction of a 10,000 square feet advance factory in Bandon and has approved a grant for a small industry to locate there.

In Clonakilty the IDA are promoting for suitable industry a 4-acre site which is owned by the urban council.

The IDA have completed a 15,000 square feet cluster of five factory units in Dunmanway. Three of the units have already been occupied by small industries and negotiations are proceeding with promoters interested in locating a project in the remaining two units.

The IDA are at an advanced stage of negotiation with an overseas company which is considering the location of a project at Skibbereen. The Authority have applied for planning permission for the construction of a 27,000 square feet factory for this project, which will be in substitution for the 7,000 square feet advance factory originally planned for the town. The IDA have 17 acres remaining for industrial development in the town.

The IDA are continuing their efforts to acquire an industrial site in Bantry and plans for the construction of a 12,000 square feet cluster of factory units will proceed as soon as a suitable site has been acquired.

The IDA have approved grant assistance to a fish-processing project which will locate in a factory currently under construction at Dinish Island, Castletownbere. It is expected that construction will be completed by the Autumn of this year and that the project will employ 140 people when it reaches full production.
