Vol. 321 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

227.

asked the Minister for Education in relation to the changes announced by him in the school transport system, if he will indicate (a) the number of children estimated to be affected; and (b) the estimated cost of restoring full eligibility to the children concerned.

Estimates of numbers and costs as requested by the Deputy are not available to me.

The school transport regulations to apply in the school year 1980-81 were considered and adopted for the purpose of providing a service suited to the actual requirements of present-day circumstances. The motivation was not a saving in financial expenditure through not making the service available to a particular number of pupils.
