Vol. 321 No. 6

Written Answers. - NCEA Act Signing.

66.

asked the Minister for Education the date on which the National Council for Educational Awards Act was signed by the President; the reasons he has not signed the necessary legal document to bring this legislation into force, and the reason the members of the new council have not been appointed.

The National Council for Educational Awards Act was signed by the President on 20 November 1979.

It has been decided that it would be preferable that the procedures for the holding of the 1980 summer examinations and the assessment of the results should be completed by the present council before the establishment of the new council on a statutory basis. In the circumstances it has not been necessary to date to proceed to the appointment of the members of the new council. These appointments will be made in the very near future.
