Vol. 322 No. 1

Written Answers. - Improvement of Bog Roads.

325.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of a statement published in the local and national press indicating that substantial grants were to be made available to Kerry County Council for the improvement of bog roads in different parts of the country; if so, the amount of finance to be allocated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of the statement to which the Deputy refers. The Tripartite Standing Committee on Employment, which was established under the national understanding, some time ago allocated the sum of £600,000 to County Development Teams in the west for improvement works on bog roads in their areas. As a result of a submission in the matter by the Kerry County Development Team it has been decided to allocate to the team the sum of £80,000 towards such works on condition that a specific minimum level of employment is created.
