Vol. 322 No. 7

Written Answers. - South Tipperary Garda Housing.

59.

asked the Minister for Justice the proposals he has to provide proper housing for gardai in South Tipperary, having regard to the unsatisfactory nature of the accommodation at present available for them and their families.

60.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the unsatisfactory nature of the housing accommodation for gardai in South Tipperary; the steps being taken to rectify the situation by means of the provision of new accommodation and the repair of existing dwellings; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 59 and 60 together.

The Garda Commissioner has informed me that, with the exception of six houses in Emmet Street, Clonmel, there is no general cause for complaint about the housing accommodation provided for gardai in South Tipperary. The Commissioners of Public Works have informed me that damp wall treatment, door and window repairs and redecoration work on these houses have recently been completed and it is planned to have roof repairs carried out later this year.

There was also a complaint about another place—Clogheen—but I am advised that improvements here, including the erection of a porch, are being carried out at present.
