The most recent labour force survey, from which results are available, is the one undertaken in April 1977. It is estimated that at that time the number of self-employed persons (including those with employees) was 244,300 while the number of employees was 762,100. Estimates for 1979 and 1980 on the basis of the results of the 1977 survey are not available.
A further labour force survey was undertaken in June 1979 and it is expected that results from this survey will be available in the autumn of this year.
