asked the Minister for Finance the total extent of Exchequer foreign borrowings, at the exchange rates obtaining at the time of the borrowings, in each of the years 1976 to 1979; and the estimated figure for 1980.

The above figures take account of foreign currency borrowings by the Exchequer as well as sales of Government securities denominated in Irish pounds to non-residents.

The amount of foreign borrowing to be undertaken in 1980 will be decided having regard to the financing needs of the Exchequer and the position of the external reserves.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated volume of prospective borrowing requirements for the calendar year 1980 as at the latest available date; and the percentage this total represents of GNP.

The budget provided for an Exchequer borrowing requirement of £896 million, representing 10.4 per cent of GNP. This estimate has not been revised in the meantime.
