asked the Minister for Finance if, further to his reply to a parliamentary question on 20 February, 1980, there has been any change in the estimated cost of interest payments and capital repayments of servicing the external debt in 1980; and the current estimated cost of these payments.

The estimated cost of foreign interest payments in 1980 is now £160 million using current interest and exchange rates. The estimate of 20 February was based on Exchequer foreign debt outstanding at 31 January, 1980 and the present estimate is based on the Exchequer foreign debt outstanding at 31 May 1980. There has been no change in the estimate of capital repayments given in the previous reply.
