Vol. 322 No. 9

Written Answers. - Waterford Garda Strength.

45.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to reports (details supplied) referring to a shortfall in Garda manpower in Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen the reports referred to by the Deputy.

While there are heavy demands on Garda resources in Waterford city the Garda authorities are satisfied that these resources are being deployed to best advantage and that there is no question of the policing of the city and suburbs being neglected.

The current Garda strength at Waterford is the maximum that can be provided at present having regard to overall resources and other demands on Garda services but the question of increasing the strength at the centre will be further considered according as additional manpower becomes available for assignment.
