Vol. 322 No. 9

Written Answers. - Industrial Payments Review.

74.

asked the Minister for Finance when payments by industry, i.e. taxation and social welfare payments, were last reviewed in order to help competitiveness in severe trading conditions; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Payments by industry in the form of taxation and social welfare contributions are kept under continuous review particularly in the context of the budget. Where there is evidence that an adjustment in the amounts paid by industry would be appropriate in circumstances of difficult trading conditions, or otherwise, the Government would obviously take due cognisance of this in framing its budgetary proposals.
