Vol. 322 No. 10

Written Answers. - Abolition of Ground Rents.

273.

asked the Minister for Justice the date on which he expects all existing ground rents will have been abolished under the schemes or laws passed since June 1977.

As the question refers to all existing ground rents and as the Deputy, speaking in the course of the debate on my Department's Estimates on 13 June 1980, columns 654-655, referred in the same context to commercial ground rents paid by the State, may I make it clear that the 1978 Act—and the pre-election manifesto undertaking to which it gave effect—relates only to residential ground rents.

I am not in a position to estimate the future rate of response to the special purchase-scheme.
