Vol. 322 No. 10

Written Answers. - North Tipperary County Council Employees.

291.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that 33 employees of North Tipperary County Council are about to be made redundant due to lack of finance for sanitary services; and if, as a matter of urgency, he will allocate further finance to that authority to prevent these redundancies and allow projected schemes to commence.

I am not so aware. Sufficient capital funds have already been made available to finance the construction of the direct labour sewerage scheme to serve the VEC site at Thurles to employ 15 of these 33 employees when the works they are at present engaged in are completed.

Alternative employment for the remaining employees, the need for which is not likely to arise before the end of September 1980, will be provided by construction work on Puckane sewerage scheme, the carrying out of which by direct labour at an estimated cost of £175,000 has been approved by me.
