Vol. 322 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meetings with Foreign Heads of State.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the plans he has to meet foreign Heads of State and Government; and the trips abroad on Government business he intends to undertake during the summer recess.

It is normal practice for an announcement on these matters to be made, at a pre-agreed time, in the countries concerned. I intend to continue to observe that practice.

Has the Taoiseach any plans to meet the British Prime Minister, Mrs. Thatcher?

Not immediately.

Is it the Taoiseach's intention to visit the United States in the foreseeable future?

No. It depends on what the Deputy means by the foreseeable future but I have no plans at the moment to visit the United States.

Would the Taoiseach not consider it desirable to visit the US because there seems to be some concern and ambiguity regarding the Taoiseach's position in relation to the Irish National Caucus operating in America? If it is his intention to make a visit perhaps he would avail of the opportunity to make his position towards that organisation known now.

I do not think it arises on this question.

Would the Taoiseach not consider it advisable in the national interest to make his position towards the National Caucus known?

That is a separate question.

The home caucus is more important.
