Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - Killarney Information Centre.

157.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will open a local information centre in Killarney, County Kerry, as a matter of urgency as there is no social welfare office in the area.

My Department already have an employment office and a social welfare office in Killarney both of which provide services and information to the public. There is also a Community Information Centre which operates under the guidance of the National Social Service Council and which gives information on all Government, local authority and voluntary services.

A wide range of information services is, therefore, already provided in Killarney and there are no plans for opening an information centre there at the present time. I am, however, fully conscious of the importance of providing the best possible service to the public in this area and I will be keeping the matter under regular review with a view to making improvements as suitable opportunities arise.
