Vol. 323 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Posthumous Clearance of Charges .

17.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been drawn to the efforts by Cardinal Ó Fiaich of Armagh and Cardinal Hume of Westminister to have the late Giuseppe Conlon cleared as innocent of the charges brought against him by the British police; and whether he is prepared to take up the matter with the British Government.

: The Government are fully aware of and appreciate the concern surrounding this case and they have a keen interest in developments relating to it. We are keeping in touch with the situation and if any significant new element were to arise consideration would be given to raising the matter with the British authorities.

: Has the attention of the Minister been drawn also to the recent contraction of TB by Father Fell? Will he follow that up before it has the dire consequences that I referred to in this question?

: I will, as I follow up every one of these cases on humanitarian grounds.

: I want him to follow that one.

: I am doing so.

: I thank the Minister.
