: Information regarding numbers employed by local authorities as between male and female staff is not available in my Department. Statistics are available of the total numbers employed at 31 December of each year. The latest figures are set out in a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
With regard to the number of temporary staff let go in the current year by the local authorities in question statistics of this nature are not available in my Department. The employment of temporary officers is, within certain limits, a matter for individual local authorities and the employment of staff other than officers is entirely a matter for local authorities.
