Vol. 323 No. 6

Written Answers . - Kerry School .

353.

asked the Minister for Education the reason his Department ignored an appeal from the Bishop of Kerry, Dr. McNamara, to re-open Currans national school, County Kerry.

: Far from ignoring the appeal of His Lordship I discussed the case personally with him on the telephone and explained my decision to close Currans school. In arriving at this decision, I took account of the very substandard condition of Currans school building, which is over 100 years old, the reluctance of the teachers to continue teaching there and the fact that provision had been made in the new school at Killeentierna for the Currans pupils.
