asked the Minister for Defence the total cost to public funds of the Army intervention in the petrol tanker drivers' dispute; and whether he intends to recoup this money from the oil companies.

: The total cost to public funds of the Army intervention in the petrol drivers' dispute is currently being computed and it has been agreed by the Minister for Energy that the question of recoupment of the cost will be pursued with the oil companies concerned.

: Can the Minister state at this stage, even if the exact pounds and pence have not been calculated, what the cost involved was?

: No, but I will get in touch with the Deputy as soon as I have that information.

: Is the Minister confident that these expenses will be recouped?

: The Minister for Energy said that they will be recouped from the oil companies and there is no problem as yet with regard to that.
