Vol. 323 No. 9

Written Answers . - Mayo National School .

369.

asked the Minister for Education the reason Cregganbane national school, County Mayo, was closed on 30 September 1980; if he is aware that Cregganbane parents have witheld their children from the Killeen school in protest; and if he will arrange to have Cregganbane school re-opened immediately in accordance with their wishes.

: Cregganbane national school, a one-teacher school, was amalgamated as from 2 October 1980 with Killeen central school following agreement of the boards of management of both schools to the amalgamation. The Department have been informed by letter of 23 October 1980 from the chairman of the board of management of the former Cregganbane national school that a majority of the parents of the pupils of the school were in favour of the amalgamation. I am satisfied that the action taken in this case was the most appropriate in the circumstances.
