Vol. 324 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castleblayney (Monaghan) School.

6.

(Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in commencing work on the new Protestant school in Castleblayney, County Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The final stage of planning has been completed only recently in relation to the new Protestant national school in Castleblayney. The project is now ready for invitation of tenders and I have authorised the Commissioners of Public Works to make the necessary arrangements.

(Cavan-Monaghan): I take it that the Minister realises the urgency about this matter and also that there is an acute need for a new school in Castleblayney. In view of that, could he give us any indication as to when tenders will be invited?

I agree with the Deputy that there is a need and that it is necessary to be as expeditious as possible. As I have stated in my answer, the project is ready and I have authorised the commissioners to make the necessary arrangements to invite tenders.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Would the Minister impress on the Commissioners of Public Works the urgency involved and ask them to invite tenders as a matter of urgency?

Yes, I have already done so and I do not expect that there will be any delay.
