11.

asked the Minister for Transport the length of time the position of the "number one man" at Skerries coast watching station, County Dublin, has been vacant; and when it is proposed to fill the vacancy.

The post of "number one man" in charge of the coast life saving station at Skerries is not vacant. The present "number one man" was appointed with effect from 22 October 1979.

12.

asked the Minister for Transport the length of time the position of inspector, with overall charge of the Coast Watching Service has been vacant; and when it is proposed to fill the vacancy.

The post of inspector, Coast Life-Saving Service, has been vacant since 1972. The work of the Coast Life-Saving Service has in the meantime been supervised by two superintendents.

The inspector post is normally held by a nautical surveyor from the Marine Survey Service of the Department. Difficulties have been experienced since 1972 in recruiting qualified survey staff but the position has improved and vacancies have now been filled. On completion of the necessary preliminary training of new entrants, it is the intention that a nautical surveyor be assigned to the post of inspector. Coast Life-Saving Service.
