Vol. 324 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Strokestown (Roscommon) Regional Airport.

24.

asked the Minister for Transport if he will make a statement on the proposed development of a regional airport at Strokestown, County Roscommon.

Stemming from proposals submitted to my Department for the provision of airport facilities to serve Knock and the Connaught region generally, approval in principle has recently been announced for the development of an airport in County Mayo. This development should cater adequately for the needs of the region.

Is the Minister aware that Roscommon County Council granted planning permission for the development of an airport in Strokestown and that the county council supported this proposal at a meeting? I know the Minister is biased towards Mayo, but I hope he will consider the provision of an airport at Strokestown where it is badly needed and would serve Knock as well as Roscommon, Longford and Galway.

Did the Deputy say biased?

I am not so aware. I am quite sure the proposed airport in the Mayo region will serve the needs of the region adequately.

Question No. 25.

One supplementary question.

I am sorry, Deputy, I have called the next question.

It was Deputy Mrs. Burke's question.
