Vol. 324 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) School.

312.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that a school (details supplied) in Ballyfermot, Dublin, is now running a very large deficit; if it is possible to grant them the £5.00 increase in the capitation grant which they are seeking; if it is possible to make a special grant to them to clear their overdraft; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The amount of capitation grant payable to authorities of national schools is calculated by reference to general regulations related to categories of school. The general rate of the grant, including the local contribution, has risen from £7.50 per pupil for the 1976-77 school-year to £14.75 per pupil in the 1979-80 school-year.

It is a matter for school authorities to adjust expenditure to income and I am not authorised to make grants to individual schools other than in accordance with the published regulations.
