asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in his Department regarding plans for the group water supply scheme for Ballylin, Derrica, Rosfarahan, and Aughaboy in the Ferbane area of County Offaly; and if he will make a statement outlining fully the up-to-date position regarding this scheme and the progress of work to date.

The design for this scheme has been approved by my Department and Offaly County Council. A special contribution of £18,656 has also been approved by my Department at the request of Offaly County Council to cater for increased storage to facilitate further development in the area. Tenders and quotations have been examined by my Department's inspector, and the latter will inform the group of their financial commitment shortly and advise them to collect the appropriate local contribution.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he expects that work will commence on the provision of a new water supply scheme for Charleville, County Cork.

A report on the investigation of underground sources for Rathluirc water supply scheme was submitted to my Department on 15 July 1980. This report, together with contract documents for a scheme based on borehole sources which had been submitted in advance of this report, are under examination in my Department. In the circumstances it is not possible at this stage to indicate when planning of the scheme will be completed or when work will commence.
