Vol. 325 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inflation Rate.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the rate of inflation for each year ended mid-November from 1976 to 1979.

The percentage changes in the consumer price index for the years ending mid-November 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979 were 20.6 per cent, 10.8 per cent, 7.9 per cent and 16.0 per cent respectively.

That is a comprehensive answer.

What about 1980?

Has the Minister any estimate for the year ended mid-November 1980? This was the second part of my question but I note that it has been shunted into Question No. 158 to the Minister for Finance. When I put down the question I asked for a follow-through for the rate of inflation to mid-November 1980 but that question has been dumped into the other end of the Order Paper.

I can assure the Deputy that that was not intentional and that we shall have the figure for him shortly.

May I expect to have it this afternoon? If so, I shall have to take out the written reply to Question No. 158.

I shall ensure that the Deputy has the reply shortly.
