Vol. 325 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Roads Expenditure.

5.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the lack of expenditure on all roads in Galway city and county as a result of which almost all roads in the city and county are deteriorating; and if he will make the necessary finance available to ensure no further deterioration.

Road grants totalling £1.88 million have been allocated this year to Galway County Council and £482,000 to Galway Corporation, representing substantial and progressive increases in allocations since 1976. There are no funds at my disposal from which further grants can be made available this year.

When determining the road grants for 1981, I will continue to bear the road needs of County Galway in mind, having regard to the overall amount of moneys available to me for road works and the requirements of other areas.
