Vol. 325 No. 1

Written Answers. - State Forest Game Shooting.

355.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if his Department is satisfied with the regulations controlling the use of State forests for the purpose of game-shooting; when these regulations were last revised; and if in view of the increased use being made of forest walks in the Dublin-Wicklow Mountain ranges, he will now consider prohibiting the use of the forests under his control in this region for the purpose of game shooting.

Arrangements for hunting at State forests are kept under review and prior to the tragic occurrence of 22 November 1980 had proved satisfactory. I have now directed that the Forest and Wildlife Service undertake a thorough review of all aspects of game shooting and in particular deer stalking at State forests, in the course of which all aspects will be considered. I have, in the meantime, as a precautionary measure suspended all licences to hunt deer on State forest lands.
