Vol. 325 No. 1

Written Answers. - Eastern By-Pass Motorway.

393.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline Government policy in relation to the proposed Eastern By-Pass Motorway, which has been rejected by Dublin City Council; and if he will provide an estimate, at present-day money values, of the cost of constructing the motorway.

Government policy on the development of the roads system is contained in the Road Development Plan for the 1980s, which was published last year. Provision is made in the plan for a new bridge and approach roads over the River Liffey in the vicinity of Macken Street. It is the responsibility of the road authorities concerned, in the first instance, to prepare detailed plans and costs for such projects. I have not received such details in relation to the project to which the Deputy refers.
