Vol. 325 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Concert Hall.

2.

asked the Taoiseach when the new concert hall in Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin, will be ready; and its total cost.

The concert hall is expected to be ready next May, and the total cost is expected to be in the region of £3 million.

What arrangements have been made for the management of the concert hall? Is the Taoiseach aware that in the case of a concert hall bookings are normally taken about two years in advance and that the absence of any authority with whom to make bookings is giving rise to very serious problems as there are now only six months until the concert hall is due to be opened?

A manager has been recruited and we hope shortly to establish a board of management for the concert hall.

Would the Taoiseach accept that failure to do this two years in advance and leaving it to within six months of opening has prejudiced the success of the concert hall in the early stages?

I should not like to contemplate a board of management being set up two years in advance of opening.

How else could bookings be made? What arrangements have been made for management and bookings over the past two years?

A manager has been selected.

It was in the public press a matter of some months ago.

Question No. 3 is postponed. I understand that Question No. 4 has gone for written reply.

Question No. 4 has not gone for written reply. I was informed in the General Office that there was some sort of error yesterday and that the reply was sent out by mistake, although it did not come to me. May I ask a supplementary question or may I retable the question?

I will try to clarify the position. I was led to believe that Question No. 35 on yesterday's Order Paper had gone for written reply. I was afterwards informed that this was not so and I wish to apologise to the House for any inconvenience which may have been caused.

We could table it tomorrow if that suits.

Question No. 4 postponed.

Question No. 5.
