I am satisfied that the performance of Irish Potato Marketing Ltd. has been reasonably satisfactory given the very difficult situation on export markets for seed potatoes in recent years.

While the general quality of ware potatoes offered for sale on the home market has improved considerably in recent years I believe that there is still room for further improvement. In an effort to bring this about I recently made additional resources available through my Department to strengthen the enforcement of the prescribed minimum quality standards. The position as far as seed potatoes are concerned is satisfactory.
