Vol. 325 No. 8

Written Answers. - Abortion Agencies.

329.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of newspaper reports that named agencies and individuals here have publicly admitted sending women to England for abortions; and the action he proposes to take in the matter.

As I have no function in relation to the institution of criminal proceedings I would not consider it either necessary or appropriate for me to comment on the reference in the question to newspaper reports. I am informed by the Garda authorities that they have received certain complaints which are relevant to the subject matter of the question and that those complaints are being investigated. The results of the investigation will, if necessary, be communicated to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a decision.
