Vol. 326 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Meeting with British Prime Minister.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he will explain the meaning of "security cooperation," as agreed with the British Prime Minister at the Dublin Castle conference; and in what way the position is now different from that which existed prior to the conference.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if he will outline what he envisages by the word "citizenship" as used by him in his recent communique.

I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 1 and 2 together.

It has been the practice to regard details of security matters as confidential and I think it would be unwise to depart from that practice.

Citizenship rights are included in the range of issues on which the British Prime Minister and I commissioned joint studies last December, in order to facilitate the special consideration of the totality of relationships within these islands to which we agreed to devote our next meeting.

The general ambit of citizenship is set out in domestic and international law and is, I believe, well understood.
