Formal notices of assessment were issued on 15 August 1980 to the vast majority of farmers to whom resource tax was estimated at that stage to apply. Subsequently, notices of assessment were issued, on various dates, to some 500 other individuals as they became identified, while similar notices will issue shortly to another 200 individuals recently identified.
It is thought that virtually all individuals liable to resource tax have now been identified and that the number of extra cases likely to emerge will be quite small.
The yield from resource tax in 1981 is estimated at £5.8 million.
