asked the Minister for Finance (a) the extent to which investment was financed from domestic sources in 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980; and (b) the estimated extent to which investment was financed externally for each of those years.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to investment in the Public Capital Programme. This forms part of the capital budget, which also includes other items including the current budget deficit. The financing of the total capital budget in the years from 1977 to 1980 inclusive was as follows:—

It is not possible to differentiate in these figures between amounts used for investment and for other purposes.

The foreign sources referred to above include receipts from the EEC Regional Fund and from sales of domestic Government securities to non-residents.
