Vol. 326 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Helicopter-carrying Vessels.

25.

asked the Minister for Defence if there will be sufficient trained men available in the Naval Service to crew the helicopter-carrying vessels due to enter service in the next two years; the steps he has taken to ensure this; and if he will give full details of programmes to be undertaken to develop the Naval Service.

The new vessels will not be available to enter service within the next two years because their construction programme will not have been completed. The necessary steps are being taken to ensure that there will be sufficient trained personnel available when these vessels enter service.

As the Deputy was informed in reply to a question on 18 June 1980 consideration is being given to the provision of a roadway between Haulbowline and Spike Island and additional facilities on Spike Island to facilitate the expansion of the Naval Service.

Questions Nos. 26 and 27 have gone for written reply.
