The normal practice in these cases is that full-time staff employed at telephone exchanges which are converted to automatic working are offered transfers to other exchanges which still require operating staff. Part-time staff who wish to transfer are similarly facilitated as far as possible. The detailed circumstances affecting each conversion are considered individually with a view to minimising the amount of dislocation caused.
