Vol. 326 No. 2

Written Answers. - Westmeath School.

221.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding Rochfortbridge boys national school, County Westmeath; if he is aware that it is in a deplorable condition, that parents are annoyed as there is no proper heating in the school and that boys have to wear overcoats and gloves within the school; if he is aware that the parish committee have collected money to help pay for extension and reconstruction work; and when he will give permission to proceed with the work.

A grant has been sanctioned towards the cost of up-dating and extending the Rochfortbridge boys' national school so as to provide accommodation in three suitable classrooms and a general purpose room. Sketch-plans for the scheme have been approved and I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that working drawings are being prepared.

The application for improvement of the present heating system has been received but the Commissioners of Public Works are being asked to advise the school authorities regarding any measures required to provide adequate heating pending the up-dating and extension of the school.
