Vol. 326 No. 3

Written Answers. - Post Mortem Report.

217.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will indicate the reasons for the long delay in issuing the results of a post-mortem examination to the next-of-kin of a deceased person (details supplied) in County Tipperary who died in the Limerick Regional Hospital on 4 May 1979 as repeated efforts to extract this report have failed.

Although I have no function in this matter, on humanitarian grounds I have made inquiries.

I understand that the coroner directed that a post mortem examination be held but that on receipt of the results of the post mortem examination he was satisfied that an inquest in relation to the death was not necessary. The coroner's certificate to the Registrar of Deaths for the area was returned for emendation and unfortunately was mislaid at that stage.

Following a request by the Deputy to the corner to have the registration of the death expedited, a death certificate issued to the next of kin on 23 January 1981. I am informed that the coroner has no record of receiving any application for a copy of the report of the post mortem examination of the deceased person. This report can be made available on request to the coroner.
