Vol. 326 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Alcohol Consumption Campaign.

15.

asked the Minister for Health the amount of money spent by the Health Education Bureau in its campaign for the reduction of alcohol consumption in Ireland in 1980 as compared with that spent in 1979.

The Health Education Bureau spent £187,000 in 1979 and £176,000 in 1980 on education and research on alcohol consumption.

Surely the Minister will agree that this is money completely misspent if he does not do something to stop the widespread advertising of drinking on the powerful television media? Does he intend to take any action in relation to advertising of beer and spirits? This is a waste of money.

That is a separate question but I am concerned about the matter.
