asked the Minister for Defence (1) the strength of each rank, including cadets, in the (a) Army, (b) Naval Service and (c) Air Corps on 31 December 1980; (2) the establishment of each rank of these services on that date; (3) the short-fall in the numbers of (i) officers and (ii) men, expressed as a percentage of establishment; (4) the numbers recruited in 1980 to the (a) Army, (b) Naval Service and (c) Air Corps, distinguishing between officers, men and cadets; and (5) the numbers who left each of these services in 1980 indicating whether they were officers, men of cadets.
