Vol. 326 No. 7

Written Answers. - Westmeath River Improvements.

136.

andMr. Crinion asked the Minister for Finance if the Annasock river in the Bracklyn area of County Westmeath will be deepened and improved under the Boyne drainage scheme; and, if not, why.

Investigations carried out on the feasibility of draining the river in question indicated that the work would be uneconomic. It has not therefore been included in the Boyne drainage scheme.

137.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the Office of Public Works have been requested to lower the culvert on the Stoneyford river which flows through the main road at Dalystown, Mullingar, County Westmeath and that 15 farmers are awaiting clearance to carry out land improvements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Lowering of the culvert in this instance is considered to be outside the scope of maintenance of the Brosna Catchment Drainage Scheme to which the functions of the Commissioners of Public Works are now confined.
