asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to the proposed extensions to the national schools at (1) Cannistown, (2) Kentstown, (3) Duleek, and (4) Batterstown, County Meath.

The position with regard to the national schools referred to in the Deputy's question is as follows:—

Cannistown: The views of the school authorities concerning the provision of a new school building, as recommended by the Office of Public Works, are awaited. The question of the need for additional temporary accommodation in the meantime is being examined.

Kentstown: The planning process for the extension has been completed and the invitation of tenders will be authorised in the near future.

Duleek: The Commissioners of Public Works have asked the chairman's architect to submit detailed sketch-schemes and cost plans (a) for the provision of an eight classroom school for girls and (b) for the provision of a classroom block and the adaptation of the existing permanent school to provide an eight classroom school for boys.

Batterstown: Sketch plans have been prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works for the provision of an extension and they are being examined in my Department at present.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposal to provide a new second level school in east Meath.

The examination of all relevant aspects of current school enrolments and future forecasts has not yet reached the stage when a decision could be made on the question of the establishment of a new second level school in east Meath.

165.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position in regard to the proposed new national school at Skryne, County Meath.

The school authorities' proposals in regard to a site for a new school at Skryne, County Meath, are awaited.
