Vol. 326 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions Oral Answers - Gort (Galway) Industry.

17.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism if he will outline the plans for the development of industry in Gort, County Galway.

I recently announced that under the second phase of their fifth advance factory programme the Industrial Development Authority will build a 6,000 sq. ft. advance factory on the Industrial Estate on the Ennis Road, Gort. Construction of this factory will commence later this year and should be completed in early 1982. In addition to the active promotion of this factory, the IDA will assist any suitable industrial project which may emerge for the area.

In 1980 the IDA approved grants for the expansion of an existing project and the establishment of a new one. These two projects are expected to provide employment for a total of 95 people at full production. Twenty seven of these jobs have been created to date.

The IDA, in conjunction with Galway County Council, are continuing their efforts to identify land in the town for industrial development purposes.
