Vol. 326 No. 11

Written Answers. - Tourists' Expenditure.

272.

andMr. Bruton asked the Taoiseach the ratio of expenditure by Irish tourists abroad to that of foreign tourists here in 1960, 1970 and 1980.

The ratio of estimated expenditure by Irish visitors abroad to estimated expenditure by visitors to Ireland was 0.36 in 1960, 0.54 in 1970 and 0.76 in 1979, the latest year for which estimates are available.

The coverage in each case relates to personal expenditure by all visitors whether for purposes of tourism, visits to relatives, business or for other purposes; expenditure by Irish visitors abroad excludes transport payments to Irish carriers while expenditure by visitors to Ireland excludes transport payments to non-Irish carriers.
