asked the Minister for Education the number of (i) metal-work rooms, (ii) wood-work rooms and (iii) gymnasia which have been provided over the past five years in (a) State and (b) voluntary schools.

Second-level schools are classified as secondary, comprehensive and community, and vocational.

The number of metal-work rooms, wood-work rooms and physical education halls provided over the past five years is as follows:

Community-Comprehensive and Vocational Schools: 57 Metal-work Rooms; 65 Wood-work Rooms; 10 Physical Education Halls.

Secondary Schools: 16 Metal-work Rooms; 35 Wood-work Rooms; 2 Physical Education Halls.

These facilities refer to those provided with the aid of State funds. Details of any such facilities which may have been provided by secondary school authorities from their own resources are not available to my Department.
