Vol. 327 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

295.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and when payment will be made.

The person concerned was paid disability benefit to 10 February 1981 after which date payment has been refused on the grounds that he is not incapable of work.

He has been notified accordingly and of his right to appeal against this decision.

296.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in deciding the application for an old age pension by a person (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will give a direction that a decision be given without further delay.

The person concerned who has been in receipt of a non-contributory old age pension at the rate of £16.20 a week plus £1.65 living alone allowance since August 1980 applied for an increase in his pension on 9 December 1980.

A transfer of land was involved in this case and the application for increased pension could not be processed pending receipt by the social welfare officer of a copy of the deed of transfer. The copy deed was received on 19 February 1981.

The claim was referred to the local pension committee for decision on 20 February 1981 with a recommendation for payment of pension at the maximum rate of £21 a week plus £1.65 living alone allowance with effect from 9 December 1980.

297.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason disability benefit has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare.

The person concerned claimed disability from 11 November 1980 and payment has now been made to 10 February 1981, the date of the last certificate received at the maximum appropriate rate applicable to a married woman. The delay in payment arose from the fact that she failed to quote her insurance number on the medical certificates submitted up to January 1981.

The question of her entitlement to pay-related benefit is being investigated and any benefit due will issue as soon as possible.

298.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will grant the claim for unemployment assistance by an applicant (details supplied) in County Waterford who is in poor health and circumstances.

The claim of the person concerned has been allowed and arrangements have been made to pay all unemployment assistance due this week.
