Vol. 327 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cruelty to Animals Act.

34.

andMr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Health if he is satisfied that no commercial or industrial undertaking or institution of any kind in this State is engaged upon experiments on live animals without (a) the premises and (b) the personnel actually performing such experiments being duly licensed under the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1876.

I am not aware of any commercial or industrial undertaking which is engaged upon experiments on live animals without the necessary licensing of premises and personnel under the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1876.

35.

andMr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Health how many of the 42,000 (plus) animals used in experiments in the State during 1979 under the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1876 were specially bred for the purpose; and how many were obtained from dealers.

Applicants for licences under the Cruelty to Animals Act are not required to provide in their applications the specific information sought by the Deputies and therefore it is not available in my Department.
