Vol. 327 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salmon Levy Revenue.

38.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the amount of finance collected in 1980 from the 10 per cent salmon levy.

The salmon levy was introduced on 26 May 1980 and the amount of levy collected to date in respect of the 1980 season is £150,541.

Is the Minister in a position to say how much was collected on Lough Swilly, how much was collected from intensive salmon rearers and how much was collected on the imported smoked salmon?

I cannot, because the Deputy did not seek that information in his question. If he puts down an additional question he will be given that information.

I asked the Minister the amount of finance collected in 1980 from the 10 per cent salmon levy.

I have given the Deputy information relating to the total amount collected, as requested.

I am not getting answers to my questions. Is the Minister of State aware that the Minister, last April or May, told the House that £450,000 would be collected from this salmon levy? It appears now that only one-third of that amount has been collected and I should like to know what has gone wrong.

There are some amounts still outstanding and they will be followed up——

A 10 per cent salmon levy on £4½ million——

The Deputy should not interrupt the Minister when he is replying. He must wait until the Minister has concluded his reply.

Would it be better if we adjourned the House for ten minutes so that the Minister can get the information I am seeking?

I have given the Deputy the information asked for in his question. He did not ask for information about the Foyle fisheries.

Of course we must remember that this is a very small mistake when compared to the fact that the Minister for Finance was £200 million out in his sums.

The Minister did not collect from the Swilly?

Can the Minister tell the House the amount of money that was collected in relation to Lough Foyle? Does the Minister have that information in his brief?

Is the Minister in a position to say if money is collected in relation to Lough Foyle?

That information was not sought in the question submitted.

Will the Minister circulate that information?

Of course I will circulate it if we have it.

Is the Minister aware——

Will the Minister please reply to Ceist 39?
